Race at a Glance: Menlo Park District 5 City Council

Two candidates, Greg Conlon and Jennifer Wise, are running for the District 5 seat in Menlo Park’s 2024 City Council election. District 5 encompasses Sharon Heights, Stanford Hills and parts of the West Menlo neighborhoods of Menlo Park. To help voters learn about the candidates running for this seat, this news organization asked the candidates a variety of questions on the current state of the city, and their stances on the most important issues, including homelessness, housing policy, budgeting, Menlo Park’s downtown and the Transit Occupancy Tax (Measure CC) that will be on the Nov. 5 ballot. Greg Conlon aims to tackle Caltrain quiet zone and housing

In this article by Eleanor Rabb for the Almanac, Greg Conlon discusses his policy priorities if elected to the Menlo Park City Council. Conlon says that if elected, his priorities would be establishing a Caltrain quiet zone in Menlo Park, improving the safety of the Caltrain crossings and helping with the process of implementing the city’s housing element.

Greg Conlon, candidate in the Menlo Park District 5 City Council race, aims to tackle Caltrain quiet zone, housing if elected

Greg Conlon, who recently moved to Menlo Park after living in Atherton for approximately 50 years, is running for the District 5 seat on Menlo Park’s City Council.  Conlon is a CPA and former member of Atherton’s rail committee, and finance and audit committee. He also ran to be California’s state insurance commissioner in June of 2022. In 1993, Conlon was appointed to the California Public Utilities Commission for six years, and served as president of the commission for two years.  He faces Jennifer Wise, a trust and estate attorney and commissioner on Menlo Park’s library commission, in the race for District 5. 

Longtime Atherton resident Greg Conlon joins three others in City Council race

Longtime Atherton resident Greg Conlon is one of the four candidates running for three open seats on the City Council on Nov. 8. Conlon, who has lived in Atherton since the 1970s and has run for council in the past, was the last candidate to file nomination papers for the race, making it a contested election. He faces off against incumbents Rick DeGolia and Bill Widmer, along with newcomer Stacy Miles Holland, who is chair of the Environmental Programs Committee. The filing period closed on Aug. 17. Conlon, a CPA and member of the town’s Rail Committee, most recently applied for an open seat on the council in fall of 2021. He withdrew his application before the meeting to appoint the new member. He ran for state insurance commissioner in June.
